So you've heard all about the internet browser Firefox from Mozilla, right? Ok, if not, then you should go check it out.
But for those of you who have heard a whole lot about this free browser, that is now giving Microsoft and Internet Explorer a run for their money, you might not know why you should make the switch.
Of course it's cross platform, meaning it's available on every operating system out there. If that's not a good enough reason, maybe because it's a much safer browser to use, as far as privacy and security. Still not convinced? Ok, how about Firefox Extensions? What's an extension you ask? Well they're mostly user-created plugins that either automate and/or integrate neat features right within the Firefox browser. Beat that, Microsoft.
These Firefox extensions are easy to install. One click and the install process runs itself. The downloads come right from Mozilla, so you don't have to worry about viruses, or any spyware nastiness.
While using Firefox, head on over to their add-on page for a list of popular extensions: https://addons.mozilla.org
I'll review a few of my personal favorites for you.
Flashgot - Flashgot is a great program that lets you download any links on a page, or even all of the links on the page. Say there's a website with a bunch of downloadable PDF's or even a photo gallery, instead of clicking each and every PDF or picture, you can now Flashgot the whole page! This is a really handy tool, and is currently the most popular extension for the Firefox browser.
FasterFox - The Fasterfox series of extensions are great. They're user created and tested tweaks to the Firefox browser to make it, well faster. I could see the difference as soon as I installed it, so this is a must.
ForecastFox - This is a really neat extension that takes information from Accuweather.com and puts it right in your browser. it's really small, and all you have to do is hover over the little button it installs, and then you can see your current temperature and everything! It updates automatically, so no need to visit a web page. Cool! Or Warm I guess, depending on where you are ;)
SessionSaver - I love this one. What it does is save your browser state even if your computer crashes or you shut down without closing the browser first. It remembers where you last were, what windows you had open, and everything. I always end up kicking a cord out somewhere, so I always get mad that I lost my last browse. It even has an extension called TextSaver which saves the last thing you were typing. So even if Word crashes and dies, you'll still keep your work with this handy extension.
FoxyTunes - What's more fun than browsing the web while listening to music? Nothing, really. FoxyTunes is a great extension that works with iTunes, Winamp, and other popular MP3 players. The interface lets you go through your music library, pause, stop, and skip - all while browsing the web with FireFox!
There you have it, these are only a few of many FireFox extensions that can make your browsing a more enjoyable experience.
